CONTACT Monthly Update

Contact Scotland By Your Side Project – Reaching Families in Hospital

We know that having a child in hospital can be a stressful and anxious time and parents often face many practical challenges. Our Contact Scotland By Your Side parent adviser, Lynn Shields, is here to provide support to parents and carers – to answer your questions and to make sure you have the right information you need – all without needing an appointment.

A child or young person does not need to have a diagnosis to access our help and we can provide support up to the age of 25.

We can provide free parent guides covering many topics including helping your child to sleep; feeding and eating; living without a diagnosis; siblings and relationships from early years through to transition to adult services. We guide families through condition-specific services, help them find local support groups, and signpost to local and national organisations.

By providing essential information on money matters including welfare benefits in Scotland and access to our free confidential helpline we can guide you through all you need to know about family finances and where to source grants.

We run free parent carer workshops in person (where possible) or via zoom on a variety of topics including Helping your child sleep and Money Matters.  Our Contact not-for-profit shop – Fledglings – supplies life-changing products including specialist clothing and equipment for disabled children that help with their everyday challenges.
